Mission and Goals

OUTstanding was created in 2011 to explore the intersectional diversity within the LGBTIQ community for the University of Tennessee Knoxville and surrounding communities, and to educate and increase compassion within our University, the greater Knoxville community, and beyond.

Subjects for exploration, conversation and celebration may include the university experience, secondary education issues, gender expression, class, race, gender, sexuality, sexual orientation, ethnicity, disability, belief, spirituality and religion, Appalachian and rural culture, health and wellness issues, social and economic justice issues and more.

OUTstanding aims to broaden minds, serve as a catalyst for social justice, ignite open and honest discussions, make you think about issues from other perspectives, and ultimately improve the University of Tennessee at Knoxville’s campus climate for LGBTQ people.
