We had an amazing experience marching in the Knoxville PrideFest Parade!

Knoxville’s June 25th Pride Fest became the largest free Pride Fest in Tennessee with over 6,000 attendees.   The day was full of music, dance, celebration and visibility.  Way to go Knoxville!  We want to thank our marching buddies the Feminist Action Collective for the support along the route.

The end of June brings the 42nd anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City that added fuel to the Gay Liberation Movement and prompts us to reflect on our history of activism and the continued struggle for equality.  The anniversary also coincides with the New York state legislature’s passage of the Same-Sex Marriage Bill, which goes into affect July 24th, 2011.  What a time for celebration!  But we can’t stop, won’t stop!  We can build upon these successes to achieve further rights for all LGBTIQ people.  During the Stonewall Uprising, prominent transgender activist of color Sylvia Rivera said, “I’m not missing a minute of this, it’s the revolution.”  We hope the same sentiment resonates for LGBTIQ people everywhere with exciting new marriage laws spreading across the nation.  Our question is, “Where’s next and how do we get there?”
